Church School Happenings

With thoughts turning to springtime we are reminded of the wonderful opportunity to be witness to buds on the trees and other signs that the winter season is behind. It is also a great opportunity to remind our children that God’s love brings us constant opportunities with each season to see and experience new growth not only in nature but in ourselves. Each of our church school families will have received the Lenten/Easter activity book. There are activities and recipes for our younger children to share the Lenten and Easter journey with. This year our resources take into consideration that we have a number of older ‘Tweens’ who have received a more age appropriate resource with devotions that will bring meaning to the Lenten/Easter season for them directly.

We are now moving towards the end of our first year with ‘Rock Solid’ the new curriculum chosen last year by the Christian Education Committee. I can say with certainty that the research put into the options available for our children is now being realized in our church school classrooms. ‘Rock Solid’ was a very good choice as the positive feedback being received confirms. It is a blessing to realize the time and talents of the individuals that continue their commitment to our congregational baptismal covenant to love, nurture, support and educate our children and their families as we grow together in God’s love.

Children are welcome in our worship services!

At Knox Presbyterian Church, our Church School strives to bring the message of God's love and Christ's teachings to children and youth. We help children discover, develop and rely on their relationship with God.  Church School at Knox endeavors to encourage each age group along their faith journey.

Preschoolers are full of wonder and open to discovery.  They also have a need for security.  They can and need to understand the depth of God's love for them.

Grade School Children are beginning their self-discovery.  They are working out their connection to others and their world.  They need to discover God's faithfulness, steadfastness and forgiveness and to understand their own relationship with God.

Jesus said,

"Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these." Luke 18:16 (NIV)

We affirm that children are important members of our worshiping community and should feel that they belong to the household of faith.

Your family is important here!

Growing up isn't easy in any family, but in God's family, especially, it is well worth the effort!

We are all children of God. Children have gifts to share with older members of the worshiping community, and in turn, older members have much to share with our younger members. We welcome everyone's presence!

A Few Words about Sacraments:

Baptism is a sign of God's promises, assuring us of God's love and of our belonging to Him. The water symbolizes forgiveness, new birth, and participation in Christ's death and resurrection. It incorporates us into the community of the Church and the work of the Holy Spirit. Children of believing parents are included in God's covenant and accepted into the community of faith through infant baptism.

Communion is the joyful feast of the people of God. All baptized Christians are invited to the table. At Knox, Communion is offered on a regular basis. The invitation to Communion includes children of all ages, although the time at which a child first takes communion is a family decision.

At Knox, an elaborate understanding of the meaning of the Sacrament is not a prerequisite to partaking of it. We feel it is important to let children know that God loves them, and that they are members of God’s family. They are welcome at the family table!
