Children are welcome in our worship services!
At Knox Presbyterian Church, our Church School strives to bring the message of God's love and Christ's teachings to children and youth. We help children discover, develop and rely on their relationship with God. Church School at Knox endeavors to encourage each age group along their faith journey.
Preschoolers are full of wonder and open to discovery. They also have a need for security. They can and need to understand the depth of God's love for them.
Grade School Children are beginning their self-discovery. They are working out their connection to others and their world. They need to discover God's faithfulness, steadfastness and forgiveness and to understand their own relationship with God.
Jesus said,
"Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these." Luke 18:16 (NIV)
We affirm that children are important members of our worshiping community and should feel that they belong to the household of faith.
Your family is important here!
Growing up isn't easy in any family, but in God's family, especially, it is well worth the effort!
We are all children of God. Children have gifts to share with older members of the worshiping community, and in turn, older members have much to share with our younger members. We welcome everyone's presence!
A Few Words about Sacraments:
Baptism is a sign of God's promises, assuring us of God's love and of our belonging to Him. The water symbolizes forgiveness, new birth, and participation in Christ's death and resurrection. It incorporates us into the community of the Church and the work of the Holy Spirit. Children of believing parents are included in God's covenant and accepted into the community of faith through infant baptism.
Communion is the joyful feast of the people of God. All baptized Christians are invited to the table. At Knox, Communion is offered on a regular basis. The invitation to Communion includes children of all ages, although the time at which a child first takes communion is a family decision.
At Knox, an elaborate understanding of the meaning of the Sacrament is not a prerequisite to partaking of it. We feel it is important to let children know that God loves them, and that they are members of God’s family. They are welcome at the family table!
