Guelph Churches Community OutREach Program (CORE)
Guelph Churches Community OutREach Program (CORE)
In response to the growing need for assistance within the community, some Guelph churches formed the CORE group to address the issue. As a result, an assistance policy has been created and will address some of the needs on an emergency basis only. At present, there are 16 churches participating, providing a wide range of services and assistance. As a member of CORE, Knox provides assistance with the cost of non-narcotic prescriptions and contributes to Chalmer's Community Services Food Shelf.
There was a presentation from the people at 40 Baker Street (a member of CORE) about the programs offered there. They hope to bring their presentation to us this fall. Thank you to those at Knox who supported the "Step in the Right Direction" fundraising walk in August.
Several church have vegetable gardens which are supplying fresh produce to food banks. Other churches purchase shares in the Community Shared Agriculture (CSA) at St. Ignatius farm and donate the weekly boxes to those in need. Perhaps there are people at Knox who have an over-abundance of garden vegetables! The food banks and those who serve meals would be glad to have fresh food. The idea is to provide healthy food, just as we would for ourselves.
Just a reminder that ask Knox there are barrels at the front and back doors to receive your donations. Let's fill them this Thanksgiving! There are many needy individuals and families in our community.
The CORE Brochure provides a detailed list of the services provided.
