KNOX LENTEN*EASTER OFFERING 2012
Our annual Lenten-Easter Offering, as promoted by the Knox Mission and Outreach Committee for the past number of years, has been such a blessing to many. It is truly a mission of outreach in LOVING, CARING AND SHARING to those in great need at home and abroad.
During this Lenten Season, let us meditate upon the life of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ - His wonderful love for ALL humanity; His sacrificial death on the cross at Calvary. As He commanded His disciples, “to GO into all the world” so He says to us today “come, deny yourself, take up your cross and follow me.”
As we look out on the great need in the world today, may each one of us hear the words of our Lord and be CONCERNED and SHARE.
All members and adherents of our congregation are asked to give to this special offering in the enclosed envelope. Please write Lenten Offering on the envelope in addition to your envelope number. We ask that you present your offering on any Sunday during Lent or on Easter Sunday (place in the offering plate). If you are unable to present your offering on a Sunday during this season, please feel free to submit it to the Church Office.
Our objective this year is $6,500 to support a three-fold project to assist:
1. PRESBYTERIAN WORLD SERVICE AND DEVELOPMENT (P.W.S.&D.)
With their wonderful work throughout the world in their response to emergencies and development in the developing world.
2. CHURCH OUTREACH PROGRAM (CORE)
Knox participates with other congregations in the Guelph CORE (Churches’ OutREach) Program sharing resources and information to better address the needs and respond to requests for assistance from those in need within our own community. In particular, Knox provides emergency prescription assistance (non-narcotic) paid by invoice to participating pharmacies. The church office does not dispense cash at any time.
3. THE DROP-IN CENTRE
This centre is a tremendous social outreach in Guelph operated by a group of dedicated volunteers under the leadership and guidance of Sister Christine Leyser. The three great Christian attributes “Spirit, Mind and Body” are so exemplified and adhered to with many untold persons being attended to in their dire need of food, clothing, housing, counseling and care. The need is GREAT!! We can respond effectively through prayer, increased awareness and financial support.
It is our earnest that everyone will support and give generously to these three most urgent and vital mission projects.
In His Service,
Isobel Muir
Chair, Mission & Outreach Committee
